Top-seeded South Carolina will take on No. 9 seed Southern California in the second round of the women's basketball NCAA Tournament on Monday following the Trojans' overtime victory over No. 8 seed Clemson. The Tigers had a buzzer-beating game-winner waved off at the end of regulation, allowing Southern Cal to earn the 71-67 victory.
The Gamecocks defeated Southern University on Saturday at Colonial Life Arena by a score of 103-34, the largest NCAA Tournament victory in program history.
Monday's match up with the Trojans will be a rematch between the two teams, with South Carolina earning the 69-52 win on Nov. 15 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
The game was the first of a two-season series the schools agreed to in 2025, with each team receiving a neutral-site game in their home state. Southern Cal will travel to Greenville, South Carolina, next season for the second of the two games.
At the time of the two teams' first game this season, the Trojans were 2-0 and the No. 8 ranked team in the nation. The team went 4-9 in the 2025-26 season against ranked opponents.
Strong performances from sophomore forward Joyce Edwards (17 points, 10 rebounds) and senior guard Raven Johnson (14 points, 11 rebounds) led the Gamecocks to victory out west. Now, the team will get Southern Cal in Colonial Life Arena.
The game will tip off at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN. The winner of the second-round game will advance to the Sweet 16, facing one of No. 5 seed Michigan State or No. 4 seed Oklahoma. That game will be played on March 27 or 28 in Sacramento, California.
