Lana Del Rey may be on the loneliest honeymoon anyone has ever had. Her newest album, “Honeymoon,” released on Sept. 18, appears to be just another extension of her depressing conscience lapped over symphonic melodies.
Mac Miller is back and better than ever with his first studio album in two years. With 17 songs and more than an hour of raw material, "GO:OD AM" is exactly what you would expect from the notorious bad boy — a collection of diverse tracks that seamlessly blend together.
Sadly, the retro queen Lana Del Rey only has so many tracks you can play on loop before you drive yourself and all of your friends crazy. Thankfully, I have a solution. Zella Day, a singer-songwriter originally from Arizona, has the same indie-pop feel, and I bet you’ve barely delved into her repertoire.
The Wonder Years has quickly climbed the rungs of the pop-punk scene. Weaving together lyrics filled with angst and an alternative sound that will have you head-banging, it's no surprise that their newest piece of work has been met with critical acclaim.
If you’re into musicians who can skillfully blend electronica with rhythm and blues, much like Chet Faker, Glass Animals may be an artist that fits your unique taste.
Travi$ Scott’s highly anticipated sequel to his mixtape, “Days Before Rodeo,” has finally dropped, and fans should be wildly impressed. “Rodeo” is more than just an extension of Scott’s previous work — it’s a mashup of tasteful and unique beats paired with some undeniably clever lyrics that will have you jamming for days. The album is evidence that Scott has matured with his music.
Initially, I expected a surprise album released by the reckless, impulsive 22-year-old Miley Cyrus titled “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz” to be atrocious. But I was pleasantly surprised by a few of the catchy, club-tailored beats, experimental ballads and even a song dedicated to her deceased pet blowfish, Pablow.
As you travel across campus on Wednesday, don't be afraid when you see a mass of students wildly dancing to complete silence. No, you’re not crazy — it's called silent disco, and it's becoming increasing popular among concert enthusiasts.
The Cocktails, an all female a cappella group, was founded in 2002 to provide a female-dominated musical group option on campus.
Kanye West is running for president. He may have given his VMA speech high. Oh yeah, and he's pretty sure that there is a tradition of systemic racism in the music industry ... but back to the wacky sound bites.
The McKissick Museum has collected an impressive range of instruments and artifacts for its "Heard at Every Turn: Traditional Music in South Carolina" exhibit, but the job doesn't stop there.
One of the many is coed a cappella group Cockappella, founded in 2008 by Bobby Arcovio. Today, president and fourth-year political science student Alex James hopes the group can jam its way into the International Championship for Collegiate A Cappella (yes, like in “Pitch Perfect”) for a third time. Although advancing to the finals would be a rewarding experience, James stressed that just competing together as a group and performing is its own reward.
These days, the hit radio stations are playing a variety of music genres, and obviously some songs are better than others. Some have inspired us, pumped us up and been the background music to the best months of our lives — summertime. Others are overplayed and we wish they’d move on to something new already. It’s up to you to decide which songs should die with the summer heat and which are worth putting on your back-to-school playlist.

Since we were young, we were told not to take things that do not belong to us because that is stealing. However, a lot of people have borrowed or taken something that doesn’t belong to them without permission. Whether that be a friend's shirt or a candy bar from the gas station, all of these actions can face consequences that can be avoided.

Paul McCartney has nothing to prove. “Yesterday” is the most covered song ever, he’s a two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and he has 32 number one hit songs between his Beatles, Wings and solo work. And, yes, he’s 73. Don’t let his age fool you – if Paul McCartney wants to put on a great show, he’s going to put on a great show.
Chance the Rapper released his new album "Surf" with his band Donnie Trumpet and The Social Experiment on May 29. Unsurprisingly, the full album was downloaded over 600,000 times in just the first week. This may be because of the addictive soulful instrumentals and the entrancing lyrics, or maybe its because the album was released on iTunes at an unbeatable price of zero dollars.
On Friday, Nashville singer-songwriter Will Hoge will bring his country stylings to Music Farm. It'll be the first time he’s been to Columbia in a while, but twenty years ago the city played a major role in his career.
