Rucker stuck in traffic, misses Grammy Award
Former USC student and Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker was not on hand to pick up his trophy on stage Sunday night in Los Angeles after winning his first Grammy Award in 18 years, The State reported.
Rucker, who was stuck in traffic, missed the red carpet, the beginning of the network telecast and even the pre-telecast when his award was presented.
“We barely made it time for him to get to his seat,” Ebie McFarland, Rucker’s publicist said. “He even had to stand in the hallway until the first commercial break before they would escort him to his seat because we were that late getting there.”
After announcing his name as the winner for Best Country Solo Performance for “Wagon Wheel,” Grammy presenter Cydni Lauper spent 12 seconds looking for Rucker before giving up.
Other performers who neglected to pick up their awards during the three-hour pre-telecast show included Alicia Keys, Imagine Dragons, Pharrell Williams and the directors of the music video for Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie.”

Many of us are guilty of forgoing sleep in order to complete homework, cram more hours into studying for a test or go downtown to Five Points. Most think that the only side effect of consistently missing sleep is feeling groggy the next day. However, there are many long-term side effects associated with sleep deprivation, effects that five pumpkin spiced lattes are not going to fix.

Last month, many people made the classic New Year’s resolution to lose weight to finally achieve the mystical, illustrious beach body. One month into 2013, the nearly 60 percent destined to blunder are beginning to fall. The mistake that many individuals are making is choosing to follow a diet in lieu of understanding and developing beneficial eating habits. Diets cause the cascade of frustration and anger of goals not being reached and the development of additional problems.

Jovan Belcher owned a gun. Actually, he owned more than one. That seems to be the only relevant fact to liberals pertaining to the unfortunate murder-suicide of the Kansas City Chiefs player and his girlfriend Saturday.

It’s been more than a week since Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of the East Coast, and people everywhere have chipped in to help those gravely affected by the storm’s destruction. However, many students at USC have complained about the lack of acknowledgement by professors and students. Many professors decided not to mention Sandy, even though New Jersey is the fifth-largest feeder state to USC.

The Carolina Alert sent out last week about the gun incident in Maxcy College is the most recent of many warnings students have received about potentially dangerous and illegal gun possession. Fortunately for all of us here at USC, this particular situation was handled before anything else could occur. This, however, may not always be the case. While I do not protest the right to bear arms as declared by the Constitution, I do believe stronger restrictions should be put in place and enforced.
