The lack of parking at USC has been a common student complaint. Because space is at a premium now on campus, creating new parking requires the repurposing of other spaces and costly building materials. One partial solution that should be discussed is creating restrictions for freshmen to park on campus.

On Jan. 27, 1945, the Soviet Union's Red Army entered Auschwitz, a German death camp located in Poland. There, they found several thousand ill or dying prisoners within the camp — those who had been too weak to go on the death marches of the Nazis who evacuated the camp. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum estimates "at minimum 1.3 million people were deported to Auschwitz from 1940 to 1945; of these, at least 1.1 million were murdered.

At the order of President Donald Trump, the U.S. government carried out a drone strike against Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani on Jan. 3. Mere hours after Soleimani’s death, the U.S. mobilized 3,000 troops to the Middle East, alarming the public and signaling that the U.S. might once again be on the brink of war.

There is something of a crisis in today’s journalism climate. According to a report conducted last fall at UNC Chapel Hill, local newspapers are closing at an alarming rate. One in five local American newspapers has vanished in the last fifteen years — are we witnessing the death of local news, or is there a way out?

Scrunchies, Hydro Flasks, big T-shirts, Nike Air Force Ones and puka shell jewelry seem to be an arbitrary list of clothing and accessories targeted towards teen girls. However, these are essential items belonging to what is known on social media as a "VSCO girl." The term, first appearing in 2017, has become an insult toward girls who follow the “conformist” trend.

Making friends in your classes can be a rewarding experience, and it only takes a little effort from you to get the conversation started. Though many students decide to brave the slog of challenging course material on their own, taking the time to make friends in a class can make learning the material and studying for the tests a little more bearable.

With the often cited commercialism of Christmas, we tend to get caught up in the wonderful but sometimes anticlimactic anticipation of Christmas Day. Anticipation for gifts. Anticipation for peace. Anticipation for some kind of neat resolution to the world’s problems or, at least, our own.

Eighteen-year-olds are legally considered adults, allowed to vote and die for this country, but have to wait to grab a drink and now a cigarette until they are 21. Conversely, science says the brain isn’t fully developed until the age of 25. These varying definitions beg the question: What is adulthood?

As football season comes to a close, some students here at South Carolina might be mourning their role as sports spectators. No more shuttles to Williams-Brice Stadium, no more watching the football team go out there and try their best.

It’s 2 a.m. Saturday morning and South Carolina plays Clemson in 10 hours. Of course, my last game as a student would be a noon game. I should be getting plenty of sleep to prepare for a morning of tailgating, but here I am writing this letter from the editor. I procrastinated writing it, like I did many other stories and assignments this year.
