Coming into the season, the hype surrounding freshman guard PJ Dozier was real. Before he had even set foot upon the hardwood of Colonial Life Arena, the question of whether fans should expect him to stay beyond this season was already being tossed around. The five-star was the first name to come up when the men’s basketball team was mentioned, and it was on his shoulders that this team was expected to win, both for this year and hopefully a few more as well. While the start of this season hasn’t been a year of stardom for Dozier, this team is far better with him on the court.

With all the frustration, disappointment and even anger that this season has generated, Gamecock fans should keep one thing in mind: it’s not Perry Orth’s fault. Even with all the finger-pointing that has been occurring, no finger should end up pointing at Orth.

I wish it weren't decided like this. I wish that a coach were judged solely on his team’s performance, not the tallies in the win-loss column. I wish that recruits made decisions based solely off the words of the coach speaking to them, with his name having no impact at all on their decision. I wish that a coach’s job security rested solely on the honest belief of his players in him, not the belief of the alumni, fans and non-football-related administrators who have no idea what happens behind locker room doors or on the practice field.

Sitting in Neyland Stadium, surrounded by South Carolina fans, I began to hear groans. Play was dead on the field for the time being, but it was happening — South Carolina fans all around me mourning something. Then I hear it: Clemson won.

According to Bloomberg, an estimated $10 billion will be spent on the 2016 presidential race. From television ads to travel to staff, those campaigns become massive expenditures that cross the country in ways unimaginable by this country’s first politicians. Of course, no one is arguing that there is something inherently wrong with expensive operations — sometimes they can produce fantastic results as the legitimate voice of the people. However, this can often go horribly astray when money going into politics is not visible.

If you attended Wednesday night's Carolina Clash debate, you’ll doubtless be aware of a few simple things. First, that the College Republicans’ chair can’t answer questions and is woefully unaware of her party’s policies.

Donald Trump should not be considered a serious contender for the presidency. That being said, he could perhaps be the most influential change-maker in American partisan discourse of the last few decades. While certainly presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have altered how the American body politic works, Trump stands capable of dismantling it. In an election cycle featuring two behemoths of political dynasties, the largest ego belongs to the candidate who said “I have never gone bankrupt” while filing for bankruptcy. What Trump is doing, in the end, isn’t about himself. Whether he knows it or not, he is poised to become the executioner of the far-right sector of American politics.

One night, while I was delaying sleep and scouring the Internet for something that might sedate my mind, I found a video of Russian President Vladimir Putin giving a speech.

Timing is everything in this universe. If you don't pay your bills on time, there is a penalty. If you don't give your life to God on time, there is the threat of Hades. Bad timing is unneeded especially in a highly introspective action like a book. In Barton Swaim's new book "The Speechwriter" he tries to profit on Sanford's downfalls, but he whiffs and shoots an airball atrociously. Also, while he is attempting this, he unconsciously fouls Sanford on his shot for another chance in the public's opinion of him.

Dear Carolina family,

Thinking back to five fulfilling decades as a scientist and teacher, I marvel at how it all started. When the shadow of the Great Depression darkened mid-western prairies, my nature-loving parents lived sustainably off the land in northern Wisconsin and the Quetico Canoe Wilderness of Canada. I thrived on the sights and sounds of that pristine environment and quickly decided on an academic career in ecology.

The results of on-campus housing visitation voting are in, and everyone is still upset. Someone didn't vote, someone hates their roommate, someone thinks the whole system is unfair and regardless of the result, someone is unhappy.
