Overhaul of codes begins in student senate

Student senate introduced a streamlining of its legislative codes Wednesday night. The overhaul of the 200 section largely organizes the codes, codifies current procedures and moves certain codes to more appropriate sections.


Pastides calls for tuition freeze

University President Harris Pastides called for a three-year tuition freeze in exchange for increased, “fair” funding from the state Wednesday morning at his annual State of the University address. Pastides also asked lawmakers to pass a performance-based education funding plan and to cover increasing employee pay, energy bills and health insurance costs. If the legislature does so, the university will not ask for any additional one-time allocations, like the $15 million it received this year to renovate Hamilton College.


Police: Man inappropriately grabbed woman outside of Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center Tuesday night

USC’s Division of Law Enforcement and Safety is looking for a man who inappropriately grabbed a woman outside the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center Tuesday night, according to a Wednesday morning crime alert. A man who appeared to be Hispanic and in his 30s allegedly asked the woman for directions near the Strom’s parking lot around 8:30 p.m.


	Since Harris Pastides was named president, the football team has had a pair of 11-win seasons and top-10 finishes.

Gamecocks see athletic success under Pastides

Since Harris Pastides was named president in 2008, the football team shook off years of middling performance for a pair of program-best 11-win seasons and top-10 finishes. The baseball team won back-to-back national championships. And women’s basketball has improved its conference record, taking back-to-back 25-win seasons.

When USC planted its Carolina on King welcome center in Charleston last August, President Harris Pastides touted it as “a front door” to the university for Lowcountry tourists, alumni and potential students. One year later, Carolina on King has drawn more than 65,000 visitors from almost all 50 states and a number of foreign countries.
