Homecoming king, queen answer questions from DG

This year’s Homecoming court was crowned Tuesday night at the annual Homecoming Showcase. Homecoming Queen JennaMarie Hill and Homecoming King Tim Olson emailed the Daily Gamecock with some USC memories, Homecoming talk and embarrassing moments.

DG: What inspired you to run for Homecoming court?
JH: When I went to showcase my freshman year, I admired the women on stage. They were all beautiful in their own way and were on stage because of their service to the school. Instantly, they became women who I aspired to be. I remember my roommates giggling when I told them I wanted to be homecoming queen. We all had a good laugh the other day after I finally achieved my goal. I hope to be a role model to girls on campus, who, just like me, have dreams of doing great things
TO: I’ve wanted to represent USC since my first day on campus and was looking for an opportunity to do so. After my fraternity nominated me and I got through the first few rounds it finally started to feel real.
I first had the idea after attending Showcase as a Junior and watching Chase and Lauren get crowned. It seems like one of those ideas I had that I just never let go of and kept running after.

DG: What is your most embarrassing moment?
JH: I started tearing up in my Power Yoga class [this morning]. This week has been so awesome, but it has been tough finding time to sleep; thus, I was having some struggles with my emotions. When my teacher asked me to run through Sun Salutation, I froze up and my eyes started to water. Sorry to the five other students in that class who had to awkwardly sit there while I tried to hold back tears …
TO: When my friends at USC found out that I was in a rap group in middle school. We were called “The Burnt Cream Puffs.” We were about as good as our name. I didn’t live that one down for a while.

DG: If you could change one thing about USC, what would it be?
JH: The buses. I think it would be super cool if they were actually old-fashioned trollies. I love taking things from other decades and giving them a new story and adventure.
TO: As all great politicians would say: “No comment.”

DG: What is your favorite USC memory?
JH: First day of second semester freshman year, I woke up to a winter wonderland, which in South Carolina is half an inch of white dust. Regardless, school was canceled! After laughing from my three-floor window at a street cleaning truck attempting to sweep Greene Street free of snow, I pulled my roommates out of their beds, attempted to snow proof our sweatpants, and together, we went to the Horseshoe and built a Mr. and Mrs. Pastidies snow couple. I then made the trek from Woodrow to Bates to play some Xbox with my guy friends and go sledding with a tarp we had found.
TO: I got to help co-lead a worship night for all of the Christian organizations on campus last semester. Getting to be a part of that night and watch it all come together was an amazing experience.
