Last weekend the No. 25 Gamecocks managed to gain their fourth straight victory over the No. 33 LSU Tigers, stretching their winning streak to four with a 4-1 victory.
In 2012 the SEC recognized equestrian as an official sport. With victories over then–No. 1 Georgia Friday and No. 2 Auburn Saturday, USC captured the inaugural SEC championship.
With spring weather in full swing in Columbia, USC football took to the practice field again Tuesday. The players seemed to respond well to the warmer climate, garnering praise from coach Steve Spurrier for the team’s first practice of the week.
South Carolina clawed its way to a 9-5 victory over Charleston Southern Tuesday night after tough early innings, earning its fifth consecutive win.
South Carolina men’s swimming team failed to have a single competitor qualify to the NCAA Championships in 2012. This season, the Gamecocks sent five to the event which concluded Saturday.
The two far right courts held most of the drama when USC hosted LSU at the Carolina Tennis Center Sunday. Sophomore Kyle Koch was locked in a tiebreaker to decide the second set of his singles match. Next to him, sophomore Thiago Pinheiro’s match was suspended while his opponent argued with the referee.
Within a week of South Carolina’s exit from the NCAA tournament, coach Dawn Staley briefly considered a new job. Ohio State called USC Athletics Director Ray Tanner last Wednesday to ask for permission to speak with Staley, and a representative called her shortly thereafter.
Despite an offensive explosion in the first inning of Friday’s 6-4 win over Texas A&M, coach Chad Holbrook was far from complimentary about South Carolina’s performance on the day.

For redshirt junior swimmer Michael Flach, the time for analyzing races is over. As Flach and four teammates prepare to compete at NCAA championships in Indianapolis beginning today, the junior said he hasn’t set goals for times in the events he will swim. Instead, he believes if his training comes together, the times will take care of themselves.
The USC baseball team has a sign hanging in its clubhouse that reads, “A man knows not his own strength until he has met adversity.” Coach Chad Holbrook told reporters Wednesday that now is the ideal time for his players to read that sign. After being swept by the Razorbacks in a home series last weekend, the Gamecocks will look to bounce back in a three-game series against the Aggies, which begins Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Carolina Stadium.
Marcus Lattimore won’t watch the NFL Draft in one month. The former South Carolina tailback said it doesn’t matter to him where he’s drafted. He said he hasn’t even looked at draft projections. South Carolina’s Pro Timing Day on Wednesday was the first time Lattimore stepped onto the Williams-Brice Stadium field since tearing three ligaments in his knee on Oct. 27.
During the offseason, junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has become a YouTube sensation and graced a magazine cover, but with spring practice underway, the most prevalent topic lately has been Clowney’s Heisman chances for the 2013 season.
