USC has been welcoming more and more students onto its campus each year. But when students look at coming back to the university for their sophomore year, they are sometimes forced into the hands of expensive and unsafe student apartments.
Female business owners aren't always given the respect or recognition they deserve. These women face frequent pushback from peers and a lack of representation in local politics. But many have shared the ways in which they've overcome professional challenges and found support within the Columbia community.
The Daily Gamecock and SGTV sat down with each of the candidates for Student Government executive positions to get a look into their campaigns. Some are looking to improve infrastructure and Wi-Fi, while others want to increase Student Government's communication with the student body. Students will have from 9 a.m. on Feb. 20 to 5 p.m. on Feb. 21 to cast their votes.
Kate Robins, the 2024 editor-in-chief of The Daily Gamecock, shares what the newsroom means to her amid university proposals for a new student union. "I don’t know what’s going to happen to the newsroom. And I can’t even say that I know what’s going to happen to the student union," Robins writes. "But what I do know is that in times of uncertainty, it’s important to cling to and appreciate what is familiar."
The Daily Gamecock's 2024 Editor-in-Chief Kate Robins encourages readers in her letter to reflect on their own personal growth in the new year. "Setting goals and creating expectations for yourself will always be important, but it’s okay to take the time to recognize and appreciate your growth," Robins writes. "It’s okay to tell yourself — and others — that you have worked hard to be where you are."
A pipe burst on the second floor of the Honors Residence Hall led to the flooding of two dining locations at USC. The locations will be closed until further notice.

Emmie Thompson and Abrianna Reaves are the next student body president and vice president. Hannah Augsbach Lamma is the next treasurer, and Cameron Eubanks is the next speaker of the student senate.
Beginning fall 2023, USC will give undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in a Digital Studies certification program. The program will help try to expand student's ability in using different skills across technology.
