Love Thy Neighbor rally calls for peace

After numerous violent incidents across the U.S. that left civilians and police officers dead, the Prosper Strong Foundation held a Love Thy Neighbor rally at the South Carolina Statehouse on Friday. According to The State, the Columbia organization placed emphasis on prayer and nonviolence as means of bringing about a unified sense of community.

Unemployment drops to lowest in 15 years

According to the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, the state's unemployment rate decreased from 5.6 percent in May to 5.4 percent in June. Unemployment has reportedly not been that low since July 2001. Despite the national unemployment rate increasing slightly, South Carolina's workforce added over 60,000 jobs since this time last year, ABC Columbia reports.

USC athletes team up with autistic campers

On color war theme day, campers at a South Carolina summer camp for children with autism teamed up with USC athletes in friendly competition. The camp, Camp MATES, is championed by the Autism Academy of South Carolina. WIS reports that on Friday, the campers engaged in "color war" competitions and were joined by USC athletes in naming their teams, creating posters and doing other spirit-lifting activities.
