Gamecocks blank Tennessee 4-0

USC wins in ESPNU nationally televised contest

Appearing on an ESPN network for the first time since winning the 2010 World Series, the defending national champion South Carolina baseball team shut out Tennessee 4-0 Thursday night in Knoxville. 

Junior left-hander Michael Roth earned the win for the No. 3 Gamecocks to improve his record to 7-1. Closer Matt Price got the final four outs of the game for his eighth save. 

Second baseman Scott Wingo tied a career-high with three hits for USC, while sophomore outfielder Evan Marzilli hit his first home run of the season. 

The No. 3 Gamecocks are 24-5 overall and 8-2 in SEC play. UT is now 19-11 and 2-8 in league games. 

The second game of the series is scheduled for Friday night at 7 p.m.
