How to vote Tuesday

It’s been a chaotic year for South Carolina politics.

Hundreds of candidates were knocked off the ballot over the summer because of paperwork issues, and the state’s recent photo ID law has been up for debate in court.

But ultimately, the most important day in the political process hasn’t happened yet — it’s tomorrow.

Here’s what you need to know when you head to the polls to make sure your vote is counted:

—Bring an ID: S.C.’s photo ID law doesn’t go into effect until next year, but you still need to bring a driver’s license, an ID issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles or your voter registration card.

—Get to the polls on time: Polling places will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday. If you’re in line by 7 p.m., you’ll be allowed to vote.

—Know where to go Tuesday: Check where your precinct is on the S.C. Election Commission website.

—It’s not too late to vote absentee, but you have to come in person: The deadline to vote absentee by mail has passed, but you can go to your county’s voter registration board until 5 p.m. today to cast a ballot. Find where to go online here.
