Carson criticized by Muslim group, Walker drops out

According to CNN the Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson to withdraw from the race on Monday, citing Carson as “unfit to lead.” Carson said in an interview on a Sept. 20 edition of NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he did not agree with the idea of a Muslim president in charge. The New York Times also reported Monday that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is taking his name off of the ballot for the republican race according to a GOP strategist that is close to the Walker campaign and a senior GOP adviser. Walker announced his decision in a news conference in Madison, Wisconsin.

 Columbia defense attorney to defend friend of Dylann Roof

The State Newspaper reported Monday that a federal judge appointed Columbia defense attorney Deborah Barbier to represent Joey Meek, a friend of Dylann Roof. Roof was responsible for the deaths of nine African American church members at a Charleston church on June 17. A federal indictment of Meek that was released Friday says Meek allowed Roof to stay in his mother’s trailer weeks before the shootings and that he had knowledge of Roof’s plan and did not tell the authorities. The report also states Meek told an FBI agent false information the day after the killings, saying that he did not know any details of Roof’s plan.

BMW expects expansion to grow economy, create jobs

After announcing in March 2014 that BMW will invest another $1 billion into its plant located in Spartanburg county, The State reported Monday that the automotive company is expecting that investment to create more jobs for their suppliers. Just last week Draexlmaier Group, a German supplier for BMW who also has a branch in the Upstate, announced it will invest more than $35 million into expansion of its facility in Duncan. A study conducted in 2014 by the Darla Moore School of Business found that for every job created at the BMW manufacturing plant, three jobs are created elsewhere by suppliers.
