Recipe: Matcha pie that will blow your performative socks off

Ring ring ring. Who could it be?

It's a matcha pie recipe that is calling your name.

What was once a niche tea product has taken over the world. Globally, matcha's popularity has soared, transforming it into not just a powdered tea used only for beverages, but also a variety of desserts.

Having become so popular that it is now its own meme, matcha is not going away anytime soon.

From ice cream to candy bars, matcha has solidified itself in the world of sugar. And now, matcha pies aren't that crazy to make. It might sound weird at first, but the flavor profile and creamy texture will wash away your concerns. It is also a very beginner-friendly recipe, with a small number of ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen.

Get your apron on, and start baking!

Ingredients:

9-inch pie shell

1/2 cup (plus a smidge more) of sugar

2 tablespoons of flour

1/4 teaspoon of salt

2 teaspoons of matcha powder

6 1/2 tablespoons of butter

3 eggs

1 2/3 cups of heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

Optional: whipped cream to top it off

Step one

Heat the oven to 325 degrees, and mix the matcha powder, flour, salt and sugar.

Step two

Melt the butter, and pour it into a large bowl. Beat the eggs in with the butter for a couple of minutes until combined. Stir in the vanilla and heavy cream, and pour the mixture into the pie shell.

Step three

Put the pie in the oven and bake for 50-55 minutes, and rotate it halfway through. Be careful putting it into the oven because it can spill easily. Once it is firm around the edges but still a little wobbly in the center, the pie is ready. Let it cool off before eating. Enjoy!
