On Friday, treasurer candidate Ashley Reynolds brought a complaint against the Rotondo-Harris campaign alleging that it used Student Government resources for campaign purposes.
The elections commission held a hearing Saturday, with presidential candidate Cole Rotondo and vice-presidential candidate Myron Harris on the issue and held them not responsible for the election violation.
The violation complaint was in regard to section 4-2-70 of the Student Government codes, which discusses campaign expenditures. This section states that the maximum campaign budget for a ticket is $3,000, and all tickets must provide the Elections Commission with a complete and in-depth itemized budget.
According to Reynolds’ complaint, the Rotondo-Harris campaign used LMNT Electrolyte Powder Packets that were bought for a Student Government event, “Student Government on the Street.” If the LMNT was Student Government property, it would constitute a misuse of its resources and an abuse of one’s official position to gain an advantage in the election.
Delaney Carter, director of outreach for Student Government and a member of the Rotondo-Harris campaign, told Vice President Jordan Richardson that she bought the LMNT packets for the campaign with her own money, according to the complaint. This should have been disclosed in the campaign’s financial reports.
At the hearing, Rotondo said that the LMNT Carter got for the Student Government event was not the same as the LMNT used in the campaigning, as Student Government ran out at its event. This was shown by a text sent from Richardson that Rotondo used in his defense.
Rotondo also provided an email from Carter that was sent to LMNT asking for donations for the purpose of their campaign, where she provided it with her own personal address for delivery.
According to Rotondo, the donation not being included in the budget was a simple mistake. He did not give it to his finance coordinator since there was no invoice for it, and no one was disadvantaged by this misstep, Rotondo said.
Carter and witness Juhee Desai also said that while Carter and Richardson did have a conversation, he never asked about her purchasing LMNT, nor did she tell him she did.
The election commission found the Rotondo-Harris campaign not responsible for this violation on the grounds that the LMNT not being included on the budget was a mistake and not a willful act, deed or conspiracy to provide it with an unfair advantage. As long as the campaign’s budget is updated to reflect the donation within 24 hours of the hearing’s conclusion, it will be clear of the violation.
Reynolds did not have any comment on the outcome of the hearing and said she was glad to receive clarification on the issue.
This is the second violation complaint of the 2026 Student Government elections. The Cooper-Hunter campaign was suspended from tabling for a day after it was determined that it had held a presentation at the Gamma Phi Beta house with its intention to campaign before the beginning of the official campaign period.
