Food and sex
are two of the most basic human needs, so utilizing both in advertisements is a
logical decision on the part of ad companies, but it is largely detrimental to
mental health, physical health and the attempt to create equality between the
genders.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and Christmas follows close behind. Whether you are an out-of-state student or an in-state student, you’re likely preparing to go home for a few days. The rush and pressure of college has been hitting everyone, and going home is a great escape. Everyone starts thinking about what they’re thankful for, and it’s easier said than done. The typical response is family, friends and good health. Those are wonderful things to appreciate, but life gives us so much more to remember. Not everyone has to be thankful for all the same things, and that’s what makes the holidays so special to each individual.

Being a junior, I’ve taken quite a few classes at USC. Both online and in person, they’ve ranged
from the general core requirements, like math, science and English, to courses
specific to my major, such as Finance 363. One disappointing theme has endured throughout all of these classes,
however, and that is an overall lack of student participation. I’ve found that in a class of 30 people,
you’re lucky to find five students who will regularly contribute their thoughts
and ideas.

Today was history. Today all the cynical conversation we had about our bigoted state gave way to justice and it was ruled that South Carolina's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.

This past week President Barack
Obama spoke out regarding the issue of net neutrality, the idea that Internet
service providers should not discriminate data on the web by user, platform,
site, content and so on. In a two-minute statement, Obama came out in
support of keeping use of the Internet equal, calling the FCC to reclassify the
Internet as a public utility — protecting the use of the Internet as an
essential service. Doing so would allow the FCC to prevent price throttling,
slow service and blocking of certain websites.

Good books set the right parts of the brain on fire. If the prose is electric enough, if the words are smooth and flow like silk, you better believe they’re going to touch that bit in your head that releases melatonin and other stimulants.

When you hear the word "rape," where does your mind go? Does it go to "Law and Order: SVU" marathons with women jogging through Central Park with the fog creeping around the bushes, hiding from their soon-to-be attackers? Do you think of dark alleys and a girl strolling down a city street at night?

There goes Honey Boo Boo, the pudgy pageant princess whose
family antics captured the hearts of millions. There goes Honey Boo Boo, the
flatulence-doling, word-slurring, road-kill-eating redneck that made modern
parents everywhere cringe with embarrassment. There goes Honey Boo Boo,
canceled after allegations that Mama June is dating a convicted sex offender.

Everyone on this campus knows college can be majorly
stressful. Balancing everything from classes, extra-curricular activities,
exercising and enjoying college can be a lot to handle at times. Some things
pile up while others get done quickly. When college starts to get you, it’s
important to remember the little things in life.
