Each spring semester, the student body is bombarded with fliers, handouts and slogans from a select few who have decided to run for a Student Government executive office. This year, the student body presidential race has come down to runoff has come down to Trey Byars and Michael Parks.

Thursday around 8 p.m., officers responded to a call from the Food Lion on Broad River Road in Columbia. The victim told the officer on the scene that the suspect, 27-year-old Tere Peterson, had threatened her because of a dispute over WIC coupons. The victim told Peterson that the WIC program does not cover some of the items she was attempting to buy, and then Peterson threatened to slap and kick the victim, according to the police report. The store manager asked Peterson to leave, which she did somewhat reluctantly.

The Student Government presidential runoff election has been postponed until March 1-2. The Constitutional Council appeals hearing for any candidates with complaints filed against them will take place Thursday. The inauguration of new officers will take place March 16.

Feb. 14, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance and met 22-year-old Vanika Thomas upon arrival. Several residents were still arguing loudly, and the suspect, 29-year-old Aaron Dicks, had already left. Thomas stated that Dicks was her boyfriend and that he had punched her, pulled her hair and hurt her wrist. She continued to yell while police questioned her and admitted to having broken the flower pot and glass that the officers had seen inside. Police arrested Thomas for disorderly conduct and provided her with a victim's form so she could fill out a report against Dicks. Officers did not observe any evidence of injuries on Thomas resulting from a recent assault.

Student body presidential candidate Michael Parks reportedly coerced votes from Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity members, according to evidence sent to The Daily Gamecock. Parks also has been reported for several campaign violations that occurred in the final day of Student Government elections.

On Saturday around 12 p.m., officers responded to an altercation on Gadsden Street. The victim, a 54-year-old woman, told police that she was yelling and waving a stick at her neighbor's dogs after they got out because she was afraid they would attack stray cats in the neighborhood. She said that her neighbor, the 50-year-old male suspect, approached her and threatened to attack her for yelling at the dogs. A witness approached both of them and confronted the suspect. The suspect told police that he was upset because the victim was trying to hit his dogs with the stick, and he didn't think this was necessary. He also said that the witness threatened him and admitted to replying that he would fight the witness. The victim told police that she wanted to go before a judge because the situation with the dogs was an ongoing problem between herself and the suspect.
