Housing development in talks to build mid-rise development at Main, College Streets
By Lauren Shirley | April 21, 2015Tennessee-based housing developer, EdR, has begun looking to acquire property at the intersection of Main and College streets in order to build a new college-housing building. EdR has been working in the collegiate housing industry since 1964 and has completed more than 30 housing projects — however, none thus far in South Carolina. “We’re interested in looking at property there,” Susan Jennings, EdR’s vice president of corporate communication and marketing, said. John Fellows, Columbia’s planning administrator, told The State that EdR submitted plans for a “mid-rise” facility, which could range anywhere from 12 to 15 stories tall. As of Monday, Jennings could not provide definitive answers about the status of the deal, nor when EdR would be making their move on acquiring the land for their development, but the block houses Sandy’s famous Hot Dogs and The Baptist Collegiate Ministry building. Sandy’s Famous Hot Dogs currently has four locations within the Columbia area, however, the one located at 825 Main Street is the closest to USC’s campus.
