Safety Isaiah Johnson will join Gamecock football team

Former Kansas safety Isaiah Johnson announced Sunday via his Twitter account that he will be transferring to South Carolina for his final season.

Johnson tweeted the following after making his decision: "Officially playing my senior year at the University of South Carolina. #blessed #Gamecocks #GamecockNation."

Johnson, who is scheduled to graduate from Kansas this year, will enroll as a graduate student at South Carolina and will be eligible to play immediately.

The addition of Johnson should certainly help bolster South Carolina's defense, which finished 94th nationally in total defense last season.

Johnson, who arrived at Kansas in 2013, spent two seasons as a Jayhawk after transferring from Iowa Western. Johnson had 148 tackles and six interceptions during his two-year stint at Kansas and was named the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year due to his work as a member of the Jayhawks' secondary team.

A Cary, North Carolina native, Johnson began his collegiate career at Western Carolina University in 2011, but sat out his freshman year due to an injury.

Johnson visited South Carolina over the weekend and attended the 2015 Garnet and Black Spring Game before making his decision.
