Details released on early morning Blossom Street robbery

Carolina students received an early start Wednesday morning when they received a Carolina Alert on an armed robbery, apparently in the area of Maxcy Gregg Park.

According to Columbia Police Department (CPD) Public Information Officer Jennifer Timmons, the victim, an unidentified 23-year-old woman, told Columbia police she was walking home in the 2100 block of Blossom Street at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday when three black males approached and offered her a ride.

Timmons did not include a description of the vehicle involved in the incident, but Carolina Alert described it as a “silver Pontiac” of unspecified model or year.

After accepting the offer, one of the men allegedly showed the victim a gun and demanded her purse. The men got away with the victim’s debit card, cell phone, identification cards and an unspecified amount of cash.

After the victim complied the men left the scene in a car, fleeing west on Blossom Street according to Carolina Alert. Uninjured, Timmons said, the victim walked to a nearby gas station to alert authorities.

Timmons said the case will be assigned to a CPD investigator to review the incident and the description of the vehicle.
