Indiana signs former Gamecock Wesley Green

Former Gamecock cornerback Wesley Green announced Monday that he will be transferring to the University of Indiana.

Head coach Steve Spurrier announced on Aug. 10 that Green would no longer be a part of the South Carolina football team.

The former four-star recruit redshirted last season and entered fall camp as No. 2 on the depth chart, but sat out a few practices for unknown reasons before the transfer was announced.

β€œIt was mutually decided that Wesley needs a fresh start somewhereelse,” Spurrier said.

Green is a graduate of Martin Luther King Jr. High School and was the 13th-ranked cornerback and 120th-best recruit overall in the 2014 recruiting cycle, according to ESPN.

Indiana ranked 108th in pass defense last season, giving up 250.7 yards per game through the air.

"We recruited Wesley,” Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson said in a press release. β€œ(Secondary) coach Brandon Shelby has a strong relationship with him and he contacted us when he left South Carolina."

Per NCAA rules, Green will have to sit out the 2015 season before joining the team in 2016. He will be eligible to play three years beginning next season.
