Undergraduate English society INK! held a campus-wide literary festival April 13, featuring many critical essays and original creative pieces by University of South Carolina students. Awards were given in two categories — literary analysis and creative writing — with four students receiving prizes for their work.
Healthy masculinity workshops teaching about the roles of masculinity in society and relationships have been held throughout the spring semester. The workshops started on Jan. 31, but very few people have attended, sometimes including the instructor.
Denim Day began 19 years ago in Italy when the Italian Supreme Court overturned a decision about a sexual assault case because the victim was wearing jeans. The jeans were tight, and the justices believed that the victim had to have helped the assaulter remove her jeans, suggesting that she gave consent. The next day, the women of the Italian Parliament went to work wearing jeans, protesting the decision.

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and is devoted to educating people about sexual violence and consent. On a local level, USC requires that every student complete Haven, an online course dedicated to teaching incoming students about sexual assault. This week, the university will be holding multiple events for students hoping to learn more and participate in spreading awareness on campus.
In a world filled with movements seeking equality within the workplace for people of all genders and ethnicities, conferences and summits are held to encourage people of all backgrounds to come together to work toward a common purpose. On Thursday, the inaugural Women in Leadership Summit was held at the Darla Moore School of Business. The summit was a five-hour event with eight panelists and guest speakers whose goal was to encourage women to aim for leadership positions. Gail Morales, the U.S. Project Management Efficiency Executive at TD Bank, pointed to a study that claims gender, ethnicity and cultural diversity correlate with higher profitability for companies. Morales is referring to a study by McKinsey & Company which studied more than 1,000 companies in the United States, United Kingdom and Latin America. McKinsey & Company claims that companies with more gender and racial diversity returned more revenue than companies without similar diversity.
Honors and Capstone are on two completely different sides of campus, but are similar in their motivations. The two organizations came together for Y'all Ball on Friday to celebrate their achievements and hard work at Top of Carolina.

Student Government inauguration was less the start of a new era than a celebration of the current administration. Rutledge Chapel, full to the brim with the members of the new 110th senate, the families of incoming officers and Student Government observers, heard speeches from the four 2018-19 executive officers — Student Body President Taylor Wright, Vice President Mills Hayes, Treasurer Emerson Odagis and Speaker of the Senate Patrick Ellis — Tuesday afternoon after they each took an oath of office.

Lindsay and Lexie Kite grew up competitively swimming. Since the age of six, these identical twins lived and breathed for diving into a pool and racing to the other side. By the time they got to high school, things changed. They began to notice bodily imperfections and didn’t want other people to see them in their bathing suits, with every insecurity on display when they weren’t in the water.
