This year's National Signing Day was much calmer than it has been in years past due to the newly installed early signing period. From Dec. 20 through 22, players got the opportunity to sign to their schools and get a head start on practice and academics. The new period forced everyone to adjust.

Two seasons ago, the Gamecocks finished their football season 3-9. Former head coach Steve Spurrier resigned midway through the season, and the immediate future of the program was unclear. Although that season was disappointing, there were a handful of players that were bright spots on the team, and would be around for the coming years.

Monday marks the start of the new year, and the final time we'll see the South Carolina football team for the 2017 season. The Gamecocks take on Michigan for just the fourth time in program history, and most will remember their most recent meeting in the 2013 Outback Bowl: just let the Jadeveon Clowney hit roll through your mind. With the regular season in the books, the Gamecocks are looking to improve their current 8-4 record, while the Wolverines have a lot they want to prove.
