In case you weren't already aware, it rained yesterday in Columbia. Actually, it was a downpour. Five Points flooded. Thomas Cooper's fifth-floor computer lab flooded. The basement of the business building flooded. Vehicles were stuck. Some cars floated.

Have you noticed it's a little difficult getting around? Do you suddenly find that you have misplaced your child in the teeming crowds of students? Well, the growing freshman classes these past two years have made space around campus a little, well, tight. We're sure you'll understand. Waiting for a cold pizza or burger in a line 30-people deep really reminds you of your college days, doesn't it?

Intangibles like competitiveness and rankings — yes, we're aware it's one of the university's top schools — are hard to quantify. How far does an extra $100 per student go toward keeping the business school on top?Certain improvements may be necessary and prestige and high rankings are important, but the expensive financial sacrifice the school is forcing upon its students each semester doesn't seem right.

That fact isn't an issue in and of itself, but the mangling of the entire building process to this point leaves us students, and the general public, in the dark.

As an out-of-state USC student, I would like to weigh in on the debate over South Carolina’s Voter ID law (“Law may disenfranchise students,” Sept. 15). I am a first-year graduate student from Massachusetts, the bluest of blue states, and, if the Democrats quoted in The Daily Gamecock are correct, I am the classic student voter that the leadership of this state would like to keep away from the polls.

Carolina's marching band can accurately be called the "Mighty Sound of the Southeast" once again, at least if the past three games are any indication.

This entire week has focused on only one issue: football tickets. Students have fought through loyalty points and Internet crashes, with little hope that they would get to see their first (or second, or 10th, or 30th) Carolina game. We know how much this weekend will mean for many students: tailgating on the fairgrounds; cheering with friends in Williams-Brice Stadium; (hopefully) walking home with the electrifying feeling of victory. Every student should experience this at least once, and, after a week of pressure, USC is making that experience an opportunity for more of us.

Some students may soon want fake IDs for more than getting into Five Points bars underage.

We applaud the university for opening an additional 2,000 seats to us, even if we're not sure athletics would offer the tickets if the department knew the tickets would sell to season ticket holders.

Almost immediately you are spotted, and, as you walk to your car, you are completely aware that you are being stalked. Today I am not writing that the University should add parking — though it really needs to. Today I am writing to my fellow Gamecocks.
