Volleyball to open conference season

Thevenin will play against Missouri, Tennessee despite ailing ankle The Gamecocks volleyball team is set to hit the road Friday to open up its conference season with a two–game road trip. South Carolina will look to improve on last year’s 6–14 conference record as they head to Missouri Friday, then head straight to Knoxville, Tenn., for a clash with the Volunteers. “We’ve got a really tough starting weekend on the road against Missouri, who is undefeated right now and are pretty veteran in some areas,” coach Scott Swanson said.


	Senior midfielder Elizabeth Sinclair (7) said fan support will be a major factor in this weekend’s two home games after the team lost to Georgia on the road in its last game.

Women's soccer seeks first SEC victory

Coming off a loss at the hands of Georgia last Friday, the South Carolina women’s soccer team is set to return home this weekend to play its first two conference home games. The Gamecocks host the Auburn Tigers Friday followed by Arkansas Sunday.

USC takes on non-SEC tests

South Carolina will travel to Orlando, Fla., this week to take on Central Florida. While the name may not strike fear into Gamecock fans’ hearts, they should be worried about the Knights. UCF is coming off a win at Penn State, is 3-0 this season and is receiving votes in both major football polls.


Women's golf turns in 2nd place finish

Just like the rain that stormed into Nashville, Tenn., this weekend, the South Carolina women’s golf team watched as Arkansas stormed back to beat them in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic.

Gamecocks open conference season

The young, battle-tested South Carolina men’s soccer team will travel this Friday to take on a big, physical Charlotte team. Coach Mark Berson said that in the contest, his Gamecocks (2-4-2) will look to convert scoring opportunities, be more aggressive on the offensive side of the ball and work on placing the ball in position for attackers to score.


Equestrian dominates on Opening Day

Before the start of the season, equestrian coach Boo Major said her team was facing a little bit of an unknown after losing several key starters from last season’s team.


South Carolina drops first game of season

The women’s soccer team turned in its first loss of the season in its Southeastern Conference opener on the road Friday night, losing to Georgia 2-0. The Gamecocks once again controlled possession, but it was Georgia (8-1-0) who was able to capitalize on its opportunities.


	Sophmore midfielder Ryan Arabmula said the morale in the Gamecock locker room has not suffered after losing to Coastal Carolina, St. John’s, and Rutgers in consecutive games.

Men's soccer returns to Columbia

If anyone is glad to be back in Columbia, it is the South Carolina men’s soccer team. The Gamecocks are coming off of three road losses in six days. To make matters worse, South Carolina had lengthy trips to New Jersey and New York after its trip to Coastal Carolina.


Equestrian to rely on veterans

Coming off of last season’s SEC championship, the South Carolina equestrian team is facing something of an unknown this season. The Gamecocks lost two starters from last season’s Hunt Seat squad, including Kimberly McCormack, who won 17 rides last season. On the Western side of things, South Carolina lost three starters from last year’s Reining team.

Conference play begins

The No. 17 South Carolina women’s soccer team kicks off its conference schedule Friday against rival Georgia. The Gamecocks (7-0-1), led by senior captain Elizabeth Sinclair, grinded out win after win in their eight-game non-conference lineup. South Carolina has outscored its opponents 14-1 this season, and coach Shelley Smith said she is excited to watch her defense and junior goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo work together and communicate well early on this year.

The South Carolina men’s soccer team wrapped up their three-game road trip on Sunday, falling short to Coastal Carolina, No. 12 St. John’s, and Rutgers. South Carolina (2-4-0) was outscored 7-1 in its three-game stretch. Coach Mark Berson said the team fought hard against its opponents, but scheduling and the opposing team’s talent proved to be too much for the Gamecocks.
