Student senate removes senator, passes recommendations, legislation

The 117th student senate removed Senator Jacob Whisenant from office after the Court of Impeachment recommended he be convicted. Student senate also passed legislation recommending the student representative on the board of trustees have a vote, USC develop a Carolina Self Service app and that plastic utensils in dining halls are replaced with paper ones.

USC's new AVP for student life aims to boost student experience

USC hired Ambra Hiott as the new Associate Vice President for Student Life after three candidates were considered for the position. Hiott aims to bolster the student experience through expansions to Russell House and campus spaces, fewer hurdles for student organizations and improvements to staffing.

USC receives $75 million donation, renames college

USC received a $75 million donation to the College of Arts and Sciences from Peter McCausland, a USC alumni, and Bonnie MCausland. The funds will be used to support USC's neuroscience program and student internship stipends. USC renamed the college to the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences in recognition of the donation.

USC students memorialize Nate Baker, share concerns about intersection safety

USC students memorialized the loss of Nate Baker in a collision with a truck at the intersection of Assembly and Blossom streets. The story reached national attention after the driver was found to be an undocumented migrant. The Daily Gamecock spoke to 21 students who shared concerns about the safety of the intersection for pedestrians.

USC to offer mobile CarolinaCards in 2026

USC will implement mobile CarolinaCards for students, faculty and staff in 2026. After a pilot program in the spring of 2026, the cards will be made available to everyone. The mobile cards are not mandatory, but will provide access to everything the physical cards provide.
