Pep rally to be held on Horseshoe today at 4:15 p.m.

Steve Spurrier, players, coaches, cheerleaders, band, Cocky all to be in attendance

It may not be "GameDay" on the Horseshoe, but USC has announced a series of campus festivities to create hype for Saturday's home opener against Navy.

An unprecedented pep rally on the Horseshoe will begin at 4:15 p.m. Friday, according to USC athletics spokesman Steve Fink. Players, cheerleaders and the Mighty Sound of the Southeast will be present at the rally. Head coach Steve Spurrier will deliver brief remarks. The rally is expected to wrap up by 5 p.m.

"We need our players to know how important football is to the University of South Carolina," Spurrier said on his weekly radio show.

Spurrier added that he hoped President Harris Pastides could attend the rally, where he wants everyone "to whoop and holler a little bit and get ready for Navy on Saturday."

Earlier in the day, USC will provide signs, paint and paintbrushes for students to make posters in front of the Russell House on Greene Street. Those materials will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"It will be a fun day on Greene Street prior to the excitement of the Pep Rally on the 'Shoe later in the afternoon," said Kim McMahon, director of the Russell House.
