Green Quad Throwing Up, Feb. 5 2:02 a.m.
They don't just call it Green Quad because of its dedication to environmentally friendly practices and sustainability. Police were advised of a drug complaint Monday night at the dorm. The smell of marijuana was evident and when police entered the room the residents directed them to their roommate's door where the odor was coming from. She admitted to smoking prior to their arrival, but the cops didn't find anything incriminating other than a single bottle of Heineken, a bowl and a grinder.
A man is accused of throwing a hammer at his roommate during an altercation Thursday afternoon. Officers responded regarding a verbal argument that resulted in a physical attack. The victim said he had a dispute with his roommate who threatened to hurt him with a hammer. The roommate then entered the victim's bedroom and proceeded to throw a hammer, missing him but hitting and damaging the wall. The victim told officers that his roommate had a history of mental health issues, and the roommate confirmed this. The roommate turned over the hammer to officers for processing and said he is planning to move.
A man was taken into custody after biting his girlfriend's pinky finger during an argument Wednesday morning. The victim, a 53-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital while a responding officer stayed at the apartment to interview the suspect, 48-year-old Frederick Davis. Davis said that the victim had been in and out of the apartment for several hours since he arrived around 9 p.m. Tuesday, and they began arguing sometime after 1 a.m. Wednesday. Davis was lying on the floor, with the victim sitting behind him while they argued. He said she grabbed his face and fell forward when he tried to pull her off, which caused his mouth to close on her finger. The victim confirmed Davis' story when she was questioned at the hospital. They had been living together sporadically for five years.
March 27, police responded to a woman's report of an assault by her ex-boyfriend, 35-year-old Corey Pough. The victim and Pough still live together even though they are no longer involved, and the victim said that Pough was upset because she had had a man in her bedroom. Pough came into the room, where she was standing, and pushed her down onto the bed before climbing over her and choking her from behind with both hands. After Pough released her, she sat up, and he kicked her and hit her in the head with a beer can. He then took her phone and left. The victim's two children heard the incident from another room.
Police responded to reports of two men trying to break into a residence on Park Street on March 21 around 2 p.m., one of whom has a tattoo of a gamecock on the back of his right hand. The victim said that he had given the two men, who claimed to be looking for landscaping work, his business card, and they called him later that day asking if he was at his house. The victim's roommate saw the two suspects messing with the victim's window and confronted them before they left and the police arrived.
Police responded to a report of a fight in progress between three middle school girls and another girl of the same age at Lorick Park on Tuesday. The victim told the police that she had been approached at the park by three other girls, who had a problem with her for an unknown reason. The suspects, two of whom go to school with the victim, started hitting and kicking her and knocked her to the ground. They continued to hit and kick the victim for a short while after she fell before running away. At the request of her mother, the victim was taken to Palmetto Health Richland for treatment.
Tuesday, two suspects were arrested outside of a liquor store on Two Notch Road under charges of possessing cocaine and reckless driving. An officer recognized the suspects' vehicle as one that had been reported as being used to sell drugs. The officer approached the car, and one of the suspects, 21-year-old Marquese Fields, drove toward the police car and exited the car while it was still in drive. Fields fled along Two Notch Road, even though the officer told him to stop and identified him by name. The other suspect, 21-year-old Ravon Milton, left the passenger side of the car and attempted to run, but stopped at the officer's command. Police managed to find Fields a few blocks away. They found a plastic container of cocaine in the backseat of the car, and both suspects were arrested and transported to a detention center.
Thursday around 8 p.m., officers responded to a call from the Food Lion on Broad River Road in Columbia. The victim told the officer on the scene that the suspect, 27-year-old Tere Peterson, had threatened her because of a dispute over WIC coupons. The victim told Peterson that the WIC program does not cover some of the items she was attempting to buy, and then Peterson threatened to slap and kick the victim, according to the police report. The store manager asked Peterson to leave, which she did somewhat reluctantly.
Feb. 14, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance and met 22-year-old Vanika Thomas upon arrival. Several residents were still arguing loudly, and the suspect, 29-year-old Aaron Dicks, had already left. Thomas stated that Dicks was her boyfriend and that he had punched her, pulled her hair and hurt her wrist. She continued to yell while police questioned her and admitted to having broken the flower pot and glass that the officers had seen inside. Police arrested Thomas for disorderly conduct and provided her with a victim's form so she could fill out a report against Dicks. Officers did not observe any evidence of injuries on Thomas resulting from a recent assault.
On Saturday around 12 p.m., officers responded to an altercation on Gadsden Street. The victim, a 54-year-old woman, told police that she was yelling and waving a stick at her neighbor's dogs after they got out because she was afraid they would attack stray cats in the neighborhood. She said that her neighbor, the 50-year-old male suspect, approached her and threatened to attack her for yelling at the dogs. A witness approached both of them and confronted the suspect. The suspect told police that he was upset because the victim was trying to hit his dogs with the stick, and he didn't think this was necessary. He also said that the witness threatened him and admitted to replying that he would fight the witness. The victim told police that she wanted to go before a judge because the situation with the dogs was an ongoing problem between herself and the suspect.
Feb. 2 around 12:45 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting at Family Dollar on Farrow Road. The suspect, 29-year-old James Lagroon, had concealed a tube of shaving cream in his back pocket and triggered the store security system when he tried to leave without paying. Lagroon asked the police if he could pay for the shaving cream even though he had less than $1 in change. Police found another person's credit card on Lagroon's person, and he was taken into custody.
Jan. 25 around 8 p.m., five juvenile suspects arrived to the CVS on Assembly Street in a silver Chevrolet. Two suspects entered the store and collected a pair of Phillips earbuds, a gallon of milk, a box of cereal and a variety of other food. The first suspect collected a 24-pack of Bud Light beer and joined the second suspect near the exit. As they left without paying for the merchandise, the second suspect grabbed a teddy bear from a nearby display. The merchandise was worth about $200.
