Rush attracts thousands of USC students to campus at the end of every August. Even though the process gets a lot of social media attention, hidden beneath the posts of viral dance trends and get-ready-with-me's is one flawed system.
It feels like only one night a year students have the freedom to get creative through their style. Halloween brings out this creativity that should be reflected throughout the whole year to enhance students' style.
In the wake of the Dobbs decision, abortion has been pushed to the forefront of the 2024 election and has been directly in front of USC students. Upon returning from fall break, students traversing Greene Street were met with a display of posters with post-abortion images, images of "genocide" and pro-life sentiments. Events like these highlight the importance of these issues to voters.
"Food insecurity is prevalent in the Columbia community," columnist Kara Rottmann writes. "Students should be more aware of these areas and educate themselves on the specific issues that cause food insecurity to diminish their own biases, reducing the stigma that surrounds the issue in the process."
"When female coaches do not receive the same pay and recognition, it may send a message that their contributions are inherently less valuable," writes columnist Morgan Dunn. "Media outlets and the teams' own university can play a major role in bringing more viewership to the players and coaches."
The Republican party is currently divided between former President Donald Trump and traditional conservative ideals as polarization across the political spectrum increases. Vice President nominee JD Vance finds himself at the crossroads of the two sides.
College newspapers and the student journalists who write for them are important since they educate and inform the campus and local community. Everyone needs to be aware of current and local events and sometimes these college papers are the only source of news in an area.
Have you ever wanted to go to Honeycomb Café in the Honors Residence, and it was not opened? The hours at this dining hall are not the best for the hours of the students, columnist Olivia Sciortino writes.
Students need to be sure they are keeping up with current events through accurate news sources. This way, they can vote with knowledge and be involved in activism for the changes they hope to see.

The opening of Gateway 737 will help to alleviate the housing issues at USC while bringing students new opportunities. The complex is being built close to campus and will feature amenities that will appeal to students looking to lease next fall.
