A University of South Carolina student died in a wrong-way car collision on Interstate 385 in Laurens County, South Carolina on Thursday evening.

Third-year psychology and art student Adriana Torres Lopez, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, was among two killed in a head-on collision. The crash was reported at around 10:15 p.m. on Dec. 11, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to highway patrol, a 2005 Nissan traveling north in the southbound lane of I-385 collided head-on  with a 2024 Subaru traveling south. The driver of the northbound vehicle was identified by the Laurens County Coroner's office as Michael Cutshaw, a 66-year-old man from Marion, South Carolina.

Both drivers died on the scene of the crash, state troopers said.

"Our deepest sympathies are with (Torres Lopez's) family and friends during this difficult time," University Spokesperson Collyn Taylor said in a statement. "We encourage any member of our community who may need help coping to contact our counseling center."

Cutshaw had dementia and had been reported missing by his wife earlier in the day, WYFF reported.
