USC is addressing the issue of police relations with a new report and an event discussing 21st century policing. The school's Institute for Public Service and Policy Research released the report on reactions to last year's incident between a school resource officer and a student at Spring Valley High School on Tuesday. This was two days ahead of a forum at the School of Law entitled "Finding Common Ground: Policing in the 21st Century."

Norman J. Arnold, the namesake of the Arnold School of Public Health and a prominent local businessman, died Tuesday at the age of 86. A lifelong South Carolinian, Arnold donated millions of dollars over the years to the School of Public Health and various research endeavors at the university.

Charles Bierbauer is stepping down as dean of the College of Information and Communication at the end of the upcoming academic year. The search for his replacement will begin shortly, according to a release issued Wednesday by the university.
