Columbia's only queer bookstore, Queer Haven Books, offers a sense of community to queer people searching for a safe space. However, the store is facing serious financial troubles and may run the risk of losing that community. Customers told The Daily Gamecock they are scared of what this would do to those who rely on Queer Haven Books to feel welcomed and cherished.

Upcycling and recyclable fashion has become more encouraged than ever, leading to various outlets of business promoting that, including many vintage clothing stores and alteration shops. Local shops and stores in the Columbia area support upcycling by thrifting around the area for individuality and more affordability towards youthful audiences and college students.
