Charlotte mayor to join Obama’s cabinet

Charlotte, N.C., mayor Anthony 0 is headed to Washington to become the secretary of transportation, multiple outlets reported Sunday.

Foxx has been Charlotte’s mayor for more than four years. He doesn’t have a transportation background, according to The New York Times, but the city has seen infrastructure expansions during his tenure.

President Barack Obama had been criticized for cabinet nominations that lack diversity before Foxx, a young African-American, was nominated. He would be the second black cabinet member, pending Senate confirmation.
