Former South Carolina running back Kenny Miles said in a statement Wednesday that he was diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety and is seeking treatment.
“On November 4th, I did indeed attempt to take my own life,” he said in the statement, which was released through his lawyer. “Thankfully, I am receiving the proper treatment at this time.”
Miles encouraged others struggling with similar issues to seek help as soon as possible and asked for privacy while he receives treatment.
“As I continue to heal both physically and mentally, I would ask that you allow me and my family the space and time to do so,” he said. “Lastly, please know and understand that this is not my demise, but just a small bump on my road to success.”
Miles was charged with giving false information to police after he told authorities someone shot at him while he was in his car. After his bail was posted, Miles returned to his parents’ home to Georgia and began physical rehabilitation in South Carolina.
