Vacant house catches on fire twice

A vacant house caught on fire for the second time in 24 hours Monday morning, The State reported.

Columbia firefighters arrived to the vacant home the first time at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night. They were dispatched once again, to the same residence, at 6 a.m. Monday morning.

No injuries were reported in either fire, but the first fire at the house, which was located in the 3100 block of Broad River Road, stopped traffic for several hours while firefighters worked to clear the area.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Investigators are not sure if the fire was reset or rekindled. Richland Country Fire Marshals are currently investigating the two fires further.

Woman injures boyfriend with sword after fight

Marquita Swanigan, 30, kicked her boyfriend out of an apartment in West Ashley after what she called a “scuffle” in the living room, WIS reported. She was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

The 22-year-old victim was found running through a construction zone without a shirt. He was talking on a phone and saying, “Momma come get me!”

Swanigan was upset with her boyfriend for his “inability to clean.” The police reported to the scene after she called them, and they noticed a cut between her thumb and finger.

The victim also had a cut on his finger, which he said he received when he tried to disarm her out of fear for his life.

The boyfriend also said that he was told to leave the apartment after a verbal fight. While he was collecting an overnight bag, Swanigan held the sword to his back.

Man attempted to threaten deputies with toy gun

A man on probation for a previous armed robbery attempted to threaten sheriff’s deputies with a toy gun, WIS reported.

Tanner Reece Brittain, 21, was hiding in an apartment when deputies came to arrest him because of his alleged two home invasions in Kershaw County.

When the deputies arrived at the apartment, Brittain tried to get into another room where the toy gun was stashed, but deputies were able to arrest him first.

While Brittain was en route to the Kershaw County Detention Center, he escaped from the patrol car. Several employees apprehended him at a car dealership nearby.
