Online Exclusive: Nikki Haley to endorse Marco Rubio

With less than a week until the South Carolina Republican Primary, The State reports that Gov. Nikki Haley will throw her support behind Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. The announcement will be made at a Wednesday rally in Chapin, according to The State's sources.

Haley, considered a top choice for VP spot on the Republican ticket, has put off endorsing a single candidate throughout much of the race, and she told reporters as late as Tuesday that she was undecided.

She is the third high-profile South Carolina politician to endorse Rubio, following Sen. Tim Scott and Rep. Trey Gowdy.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was considered the other most likely choice for Haley. Bush stumped for Haley in her 2014 re-election bid and had stated that earning her support was of high priority to his campaign in South Carolina.

The two-term governor endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the 2012 South Carolina Republican Primary.

Rubio currently polls in third place at 16.2 percent in the most recent RealClearPolitics index, behind businessman Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
