USC graduate wins Pulitzer Prize

A University of South Carolina alumnus was awarded a Pulitzer Prize, one of the highest accolades for writing in the world, on Monday.

Michael LaForgia won the Pulitzer Prize for local reporting for his work at The Tampa Bay Times covering corruption in a local school district alongside two other Times reporters.

LaForgia graduated from the USC College of Arts and Sciences and served as Editor in Chief of The Daily Gamecock.

This is his second Pulitzer Prize in three years, having won previously in the category of local reporting in 2014. LaForgia joined the Times in 2012 following a stint with The Palm Beach Post.
