Father's Day cookout brings fathers, sons together

Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin invited the community out to Hyatt Park on Sunday to celebrate Father's Day at the city's first Father's Day Cookout. In addition to food, this free event offered competition kickball, chess and checkers tournaments, and other activities for guests to enjoy. Fathers, sons, family and friends from around the community enjoyed the cookout throughout afternoon and early evening.

Two arrested in shooting, car chase

Two Orangeburg County men are charged with both attempted murder and possession of a stolen handgun after police chased them down Sunday. According to deputies, 24-year-old Javall Curry and 23-year-old Christian Asher shot rounds from a handgun in a residential area and later led the police on a car chase. Asher, who drove what deputies found to be a blue Chevrolet, is charged with failure to stop for blue lights and driving under suspension in addition to the other charges.

March for Unity honors Emanuel Nine

Teaming with the "Hate Won't Win Foundation," Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston sponsored a March for Unity and Thanksgiving on Sunday in honor and remembrance of the victims of last year's deadly shooting. During the bond hearing of accused shooter Dylann Roof, the hashtag #HateWontWin began trending on social media, the family of one victim told WIS. Sunday's walk included members of the church, families of victims, and Dr. Bernice King, the daughter of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
