Report reveals Prince died of accidental fentanyl overdose

Newly released test results show that pop artist Prince died of an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl.

Prince Rogers Nelson passed away at the age of 57 at his home in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to revive him.

While results of the entertainer's autopsy had yet to be released, information surfaced about his addiction to painkillers. Investigators reportedly found prescription painkillers on his person as well as inside his Minnesota home.

Officials had also been investigating whether Prince died of an overdose and whether he was being prescribed an excessive amount of painkillers by a physician. Both suicide and foul play have been ruled out, however.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating methods in which the artist could have obtained prescription drugs.
