Deputies searching for missing Richland County man

Richland County sheriff's deputies are searching for a missing 60-year-old man, WIS reports. Garry Beasley told his family he was going to Sumter for work on Tuesday and has yet to be heard from since. He is 5'9 and 155 lbs. with gray hair and green eyes and drives a Lincoln MKX.

South Carolina resident contracts rare brain eating amoeba

The CDC confirmed that a South Carolina resident has a brain eating amoeba, WLTX reports. The rare disease was supposedly contracted in late July when the person was swimming in the Edisto River. Scientists discourage people from swimming in warm, untreated water and encourage them to hold their noses when in water. 

Obama commutes sentences of six South Carolina prisoners

Six South Carolinians in prison over drug charges will see their sentences shortened, The Post and Courier reports. The inmates were among 214 non-violent offenders whose sentences were commuted by President Obama on Wednesday. This set of commutations is the biggest of Obama's administration and the biggest by any president in more than 50 years.
