Delta outages causes major delays at Columbia airport

Flights were disrupted throughout the day Monday at Columbia Metropolitan Airport by an issue with Delta Airlines, The State reports. A power issue at the airline's hub in Atlanta triggered widespread delays and cancellations. Delta will issue waivers to passengers traveling this week, and they encourage travelers to check their flight status online before going to the airport.

Inmate found dead in Lexington prison

An inmate at a Lexington County prison was found dead early Monday morning, WIS reports. A cause of death has yet to be determined. SLED is investigating the death along with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

South Carolina economy set to outpace national economy

Strong economic data indicates South Carolina's economy will do better than that of the nation, WLTX reports. The new report by Wells Fargo Securities says growth at the Port of Charleston and along Interstate 85 will create 3.8 percent growth in the state economy compared to predicted growth of 2.1 percent in the country as a whole. It also suggests 110,000 jobs will be added in the Palmetto State over the next year.
