Famed West Columbia resident Lady Chablis dies

The Lady Chablis, a famous entertainer and resident of West Columbia, died Thursday, The State reports. She moved to the Columbia area in the 1990s and performed most recently with Savannah's Club One. Along with her work with Club One, Chablis starred in a movie about her life directed by Clint Eastwood. She is survived by her sister.

Murder suspect found dead in Columbia motel

A man found dead in a Columbia motel was identified as a murder suspect, WIS reports. According to a North Carolina police chief, Earl Valentine was suspected of shooting his ex-wife and killing his son. Valentine was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in a Days Inn off I-20 near Columbia, and officials are still investigating the death.

Intersection named after Alia

An intersection was formally renamed in honor of fallen Forest Acres police officer Greg Alia on Thursday, WLTX reports. Alia, a USC alum and Columbia native, was killed in the line of duty last September. The General Assembly approved the measure during their last session, and Alia's wife and son were present at the commemoration ceremony on Thursday.
