Lexington County road reopening after last year's flooding

A Lexington County road is set to reopen after more than a year, WLTX reports. Devils Backbone Road was washed out during last October's historic flooding. The repair process was complicated because the dam above the road was privately owned but abandoned. Eventually, the Department of Transportation was able to take over the repairs, and the road should reopen by Sept. 30. There are still 23 roads closed due to the effects of the flooding on dams.

SC vying for NCAA, ACC events from NC

The Palmetto State may benefit from recent decisions to move sporting events out of North Carolina, The Post and Courier reports. Both the NCAA and ACC announced this week their decision to move games out of the Tar Heel State due to the state's controversial "bathroom bill." South Carolina officials are planning to lobby on behalf of some of the state's biggest cities, especially Columbia, Charleston and Greenville, to take over some of the events. One strong possibility is for men's basketball tournament games previously scheduled for Greensboro, North Carolina, to move to USC's Colonial Life Arena.
