Mother arrested after child wanders onto highway

The mother of a small child found on US-1 was arrested Monday, The State reports. Taquanna Thomas' 4-year-old son was spotted walking down the highway at around 11 p.m. and eventually wandered up to the front door of an off-duty law enforcement official. Mother and child were reunited at a fire station in Elgin where Thomas had been looking for her son. She has been charged with unlawful child neglect.

Pair found dead inside Gaston home

A man and a woman were found dead inside a home in Gaston on Monday, WIS reports. Law enforcement visited the home after receiving a call from a neighbor asking for a welfare check on the residents of the home. Inside, they discovered the bodies of two people in their fifties. No cause of death has been determined, and officials did not say whether they consider the deaths suspicious.

Monday night storms bring damage, power outages

Severe thunderstorms caused damage and power outages in the Midlands late Monday, WLTX reports. The storms caused over 6,000 power outages in Richland County, and downed trees blocked streets in Lexington County. There were also reports of down traffic lights and power lines in Columbia and Newberry.
