Benedict president stepping down

Benedict College President David Swinton is retiring in June, The State reports. The school made the announcement Monday, and they say they will use a search firm to find a replacement. Swinton is credited with overseeing major growth at the HBCU over the course of his time on campus. With 23 years of service, he is Benedict's longest serving president.

Arrests made in Midlands clown escapades

Police have arrested a woman for making false reports of clown sightings in Lexington, WIS reports. The Lexington Police Department says the 22-year-old made up three sightings from Sept. 8-11.  The woman turned herself in on Monday. The reports came after Greenville made headlines over clowns reportedly trying to lure children into woods.

Man arrested for beating girlfriend, starting house fire

A Lexington County man is facing multiple felony charges after beating his girlfriend and setting her house and car on fire, WLTX reports. The man, currently held at the Lexington County Detention Center, reportedly assaulted his girlfriend after a fight then set fire to her car. The car fire spread to the woman’s home. He faces charges of domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature as well as two counts of third degree arson.
