Famous Myrtle Beach pier will be rebuilt

Myrtle Beach's Springmaid Pier will be rebuilt after Hurricane Matthew took out much of the landmark, The State reports. The pier is actually owned by a hotel company, and the corporation will pay for the repairs. Neighboring Surfside Beach also said they will rebuild in some form after their city pier was also heavily damaged.

President issues disaster declarations for SC counties

State and local governments now have more access to federal funds for Hurricane Matthew recovery, WIS reports. At the request of Gov. Nikki Haley, President Barack Obama officially declared 13 South Carolina counties federal disaster areas. Under the declarations, 75 percent of costs related to emergency services and debris removal can be covered by federal aid.

Multiple injuries in Columbia car chase

A fleeing driver left a family of three injured after a car crash, WLTX reports. The chase starred off Farrow Road before heading down West Beltline Boulevard and Brookland. The driver, who had allegedly been spotted making a narcotics deal, hit a car when trying to avoid a school bus. He faces multiple charges related to the chase and alleged deal.
