Man killed in hit-and-run

A man was killed in a hit-and-run in downtown Columbia on Saturday, The State reports. The victim, identified as 54-year-old John Hope Cantey, was found on Barnwell Street and pronounced dead at a local hospital. The incident is still under investigation.

Marion, Orangeburg counties added to disaster declaration

15 counties across the Palmetto State are now federal disaster areas as Hurricane Matthew continues to affect the state, WIS reports. Marion and Orangeburg counties were added Saturday to the disaster list that already included 13 counties. The declaration allows the counties as well as local governments and other organizations to be reimbursed by the federal government for storm related expenses.

Richland County absentee voting precincts open

Richland County voters can now turn in their absentee ballots in-person, WLTX reports. In-person absentee voting is now available at the Richland County Voter Registration and Elections office as well as the Garners Ferry Road Adult Activity Center, Ballentine Community Center and the Parklane Adult Activity Center. The precincts are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
