Longtime fugitive found in West Columbia

A Florida man who has been on the run for seven years was found in West Columbia, The State reports. Jose Antonio Gonzales, who was using the name Hector Acosta, was found this week after a tip was called in to Crimestoppers. He will be extradited to Florida to face charges of violating parole.

Columbia mayor was on Clinton VP list

Newly leaked emails show Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin was once under consideration to be Hillary Clinton's vice president, The Free Times reports. The emails, published by WikiLeaks, show the USC alum's name on an initial shortlist that also included names like Apple CEO Tim Cook and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Benjamin has been a longtime Clinton supporter, and he spoke at the Democratic National Convention in the summer.

Incident at Upstate restaurant goes viral

A South Carolina woman is at the center of a viral story about a "tip" left to her by customers, WIS reports. The waitress at an Upstate Cracker Barrel came back to a table to find that the customers had left a note saying that as a woman she shouldn't be working rather than a true tip. The woman's friend shared a picture of the note on Facebook, and it has since inspired a large response across the internet.
