Green Fair features variety of organizations, opportunities for students

The Green Career Fair may not sound like something for just anyone, but everyone is invited to check out the various opportunities it offers. Sustainability Carolina orchestrates the Green Career Fair, an annual gathering of diverse organizations whose focus is and whose goals include sustainability and protection of the environment.

“We have something for everyone here,” said Austin Sutherland, professional development intern for Sustainable Carolina. “Sustainability can be applied to every single career out there.”

This year’s Green Career Fair, held on Monday in the Russell House ballroom, featured more organizations than ever before, from small local farms and compost companies to Peace Corps, Alternative Spring Break and even NASA.

“Alternative Spring Break helps students build their resume,” said third-year biology student David Tran. “You’re able to show that you’ve served others.”

Third-year retailing student Liliann Pineda  explaining that even if the organizations aren’t exactly what one wants, this is a great way to develop connections.

“I came here as a freshman and wasn’t necessarily looking for a job, but it’s a great way to practice your elevator pitches; it’s a great way to practice talking to potential employers,” Pineda said.

Sutherland, himself a fourth-year environmental science student, divulged that this year’s Green Career Fair was particularly successful.

“This Green Career Fair was the most successful we’ve had thus far, with 45 plus employers," he said. "Employers and students said they made meaningful connections, and that was the whole point of this event."
