Law enforcement search Congaree River for possible person

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) lead search efforts on Congaree River after a person reportedly jumped off the Gervais Street bridge around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 16, according to The State.

The Gervais Street and Blossom Street bridges were temporarily closed during search but have reopened to allow traffic.  

The search is continuing with Columbia Fire, DNR and SLED on the scene.

A helicopter was requested to aid in the search of the Congaree River, according to an email from Thom Berry from SLED.

Law enforcement is no longer searching, and DNR will monitor the situation.
